IV: Happiest Birthday, Undertaker!

Today, March 24, 2023, is the 58th birthday of my favorite professional wrestler of all time, Mark Calaway AKA The Undertaker. In light of such an occasion, I was planning on writing a lengthy post covering his career and persona evolution. But then I decided to do the extensive post later (perhaps on November 22, Taker’s WWE anniversary), keep it simple, and say: Thank you, Undertaker.

Thank you, Undertaker, for making my childhood awesome. Before I became hooked on Batman, Power Rangers, and Kamen Rider Black, I was hooked when I saw you for the first time, donning the black hat, coat, purple gloves, and all, slowly walking to the purple-lit wrestling ring. You are a haunting yet cool comic book character that came to life, and at first glance, you became my favorite wrestler right away. You are the reason I started loving professional wrestling.

Thank you, Undertaker, for all the matches and memories you were a part of. Most of my favorite matches feature you and my other favorite wrestlers – notably Edge, CM Punk, Triple H, Kurt Angle, Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, and Mankind, among others. And those favorite matches of mine show how powerful yet athletic you are even if you are a superheavyweight. And all of your entrances (especially that WrestleMania XX entrance) are my favorite wrestling moments. Even your simple entrances on either Raw or SmackDown with fog and purple lights are already epic.

And thank you, Undertaker, for showing me the light through your darkness. You are the definition of turning something negative into something positive. You, alongside Batman, are the very reason I don’t fear the dark. Thank you.

Happiest of birthdays, Undertaker! You deserve a nice retirement after 30 years of wrestling for the fans. You deserve all of your accomplishments. And you deserve to be in the WWE Hall of Fame. Enjoy your day, sir!

Watch I: The Undertaker’s WrestleMania XX Entrance

The mathematical constant pi (π or 3.14) has been a favorite of mine because it is attached to some of my favorite things and moments ever. And in celebration of today, Pi Day, I would like to share my favorite pro wrestling entrance ever that happened on March 14, 2004, The Undertaker’s WrestleMania XX entrance.

But before I share the entrance proper, let me take you back to Survivor Series 2003. The Undertaker was kicking Mr. McMahon’s ass in their Buried Alive match, and then McMahon surprisingly got help from Taker’s half-brother Kane. And because of Kane’s interference and a front loader, McMahon was able to bury the larger, more fearsome Taker. That was the last time we saw Taker as The American Badass.

10-Minute Warning III

So, what should I type in ten minutes while drinking 8 glasses of my favorite drink, Jack and Coke (Jack Daniel’s whiskey mixed with Coke regular or zero)?

Well, let me just say – I admit, it’s fun feeling drunk and relaxed after so many Jack & Cokes. I only got drunk for less than a handful in college, so please forgive me. Please let me live a little. And at least I got intoxicated while at home and didn’t spend 500 PHP for a cocktail and hanging out with strangers. Getting drunk at home saves money, and my introverted self is happy.

Also, I think my therapist will be so disappointed simply because I got drunk. But come on, people. I’m only human. Let me say again – please let me live a little.

Anyway, what else can I say? It’s almost Sunday, it’s almost midnight, and I want to get out right now. But maybe I should get out in the afternoon so I can spend less in a day. Maybe I should watch Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania tomorrow afternoon. Maybe not. We’ll see. But I will watch the movie tomorrow and then hang out at Satchmi or Starbucks Reserve.

And speaking of Ant-Man and movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I should watch Shang-Chi. I never got to see it on the big screen. In fact, I never got to see it at all, so tomorrow may be a perfect time to watch it. Good thing I have a subscription to Disney+.

Speaking of Disney+, it’s weird that they have a license to the latest WWE programming. They have the recent Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber, among others. At least I can watch those shows. But it sucks they don’t have the complete catalog of the WWE Network. I miss having the option to watch old episodes of Raw or SmackDown, or the likes of WrestleMania. I miss the WWE Network.

And time’s up.
