Song of the Moment C: Foo Fighters’ “Run”

I’ve had many right-song-at-the-right-time moments lately, from hearing Saya’s “Natsu Shigure” during a rainy walk to my favorite cafe last June to hearing the opening theme of Person of Interest (my all-time favorite show) when I typed the exact title during a recent online conversation. As a music fan, I truly love those perfectly-timed moments.

Today, I finally recovered from two weeks of muscle pain and coughing. (Violently coughing at night is not a good experience at all. And I can really feel the aging now. Damn.) Thanks to resting, drinking The Angel’s Cup (which is basically hot honey/citron/ginger tea), and listening more to mellow music, now I’m feeling great physically, and I went back just in time for work. The first thing I did upon my return: open my laptop, open my Spotify app, and look for my favorite songs list (which consists of songs from various genres and music acts). I was curious if the universe and Spotify would deliver at least one perfectly-timed song, so I hit shuffle again.

Song of the Moment XCII: Ramin Djawadi’s “Person of Interest”

Have you ever opened your music player, listened to it (either through your earphones or the speakers), and then it played the right song at the right moment? I have had many experiences like that lately, and I’m loving it.

For example, at midnight yesterday, August 23, I was listening to my favorite songs playlist on Spotify while chatting with a friend. During the chat, I thought it would be fitting to pull a quote from my all-time favorite series, the American sci-fi crime thriller/drama series Person of Interest (created by Jonathan Nolan, co-screenwriter of The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises [two of my favorite Batman films and overall films ever]). And when I typed in the show’s exact title, Spotify played the show’s opening theme. What?

The opening theme of my favorite series of all time, Person of Interest.

Side note: Person of Interest’s opening theme was conducted by Ramin Djawadi (yes, the composer for Game of Thrones) and written by the show’s executive producer J. J. Abrams (creator of the spy thriller series Alias and director of the Star Wars films The Force Awakens and The Rise of Skywalker).

The moment Spotify played my favorite show’s intro, I felt goosebumps. And yes, I have played other songs more times after that moment. But Person of Interest’s intro theme deserves to be my Song of the Moment because of how Spotify played it at the perfect moment. At that perfect moment, I felt like I was truly being watched by The Machine.

But wait, Dewey. What “machine”? Can’t relate? If you haven’t seen Person of Interest, and if it’s in your streaming apps, please watch it (starting from the pilot episode). I highly recommend the highly underrated series, and I will definitely discuss the show one of these days.

See you in the next post… and that’s tomorrow!

10-Minute Warning II

OK. So, what can I type in 10 minutes after drinking 6 highball glasses of Jack and Coke in under an hour?

Let me say – it has been years since my last serious relationship, and I want to say this on The Diary I don’t deserve a breakup email. I may have my mistakes, and any form of breakup is awful, but come on – a breakup email? Fuck that shit.

In other news, why did I drink 6 glasses of Jack and Coke tonight? Because I want to. Since 2022, I promised to drink my favorite Jack and Coke every week, but I only drank 4 glasses last January. Last week I drank 4 glasses, and tonight I drank 6. So, that’s 10 glasses of Jack and Coke this February. My therapist will kill me because of the more-than-a-fuckload consumption of my favorite drink. But come on. Let me live a little.

Speaking of my therapist – my last session was last July of 2022. Is the date of my last session a sign of progress? Some of my friends think so. But I think it’s weird. Almost 7 months? I should check up on my therapist via email. Soon. Maybe not tonight. Maybe tomorrow. I’m so drunk as hell right now.

And time’s up.
