Song of the Moment CVII: Foo Fighters’ “Asking for a Friend”

If you’re going to ask me what my favorite song of 2025 is, it’s definitely the second Foo Fighters song they released that year, “Asking for a Friend”. I love the music so much that I wrote a love letter about it, and I have heard it 700+ times as I type this entry. (Thank you for keeping track, Last.fm.) I also assigned it as one of my alarm clock tunes along with “Run” (my favorite track from the album Concrete and Gold) and “The Pretender” (my all-time favorite song). Those are good reasons already for it to be my Song of the Moment.

Foo Fighters’ “Asking for a Friend”.

But tonight, let me explain another reason “Asking for a Friend” is my Song of the Moment. Recently, whenever I listen to my other favorite songs, or I live my life without my music player, “Asking for a Friend” somehow plays back to me.

One of those universal playbacks happened this afternoon while I was chilling after finishing work early. I savored the taste of The Angel’s Cup (hot honey/citron/ginger tea), I hit shuffle on my favorite songs list on Spotify, and I didn’t look for the queue. The second song my Spotify played was, well, “Asking for a Friend”. Another universal playback would be getting tagged on a recent Instagram story featuring the same song. Wow. I cannot even.

To quote Michael Corleone from The Godfather III:

Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.

That’s why Foo Fighters’ “Asking for a Friend” is my Song of the Moment. See you in the next post, and have a nice weekend!

10-Minute Warning CXCV

It’s been a while since I wrote a Minute Warning post. What can I share here in under ten minutes?

After an eventful few days (e.g., completing all nine Simbang Gabi Masses, my family’s first Noche Buena in years), my body is waving the white flag today. However, I have work to do, which includes running an errand. So, I took it easy and walked it instead. My throat was itchy earlier, but after having The Angel’s Cup (hot honey/citron/ginger tea), now it’s fine.

I’m pretty excited for tomorrow’s reunion with my Mother’s relatives because I haven’t seen all of them together in one night in years. Maybe I’ll bring some pizza and a bottle of Jack & Daniel’s whiskey and Coke Zeros, so my relatives will have the option of having either the whiskey or the soft drink, or I can just mix Devil’s Cups for them. I could buy some pre-mixed cans, but they taste sweeter, and I’m not sure if my relatives will like that. I believe that my mixing of The Devil’s Cup is the better option because it tastes like an equal amount of both Jack Daniel’s whiskey and Coke Zero. Plus, mixing the drink myself adds a personal touch.

What else? Well, I learned last night that the Netflix hit series Stranger Things will be involved in the first WWE Raw of 2026. That’s the strangest collaboration ever. I love it! Will the cast be there? Who knows? I’m excited to see the first Raw to be broadcast on Netflix Philippines! (That’s January 6, 2025, at 9am, Philippine Standard Time.)

I still have a few minutes left, but crap. I need to run a surprise errand and then get a fresh haircut. My hair looks weird now. See you in the next post… probably tomorrow.

10-Minute Warning CXCII

What can I write here in under ten minutes?

Let me just list down what happened today:

  1. Lately, I have been drinking FRESH POTS every morning. Again. Today is no exception. 2010 Dewey is screaming with joy.
  2. I recited Steiner Math at home. Again. HOLLA IF YA HEAR ME!!!
  3. I walked from my mall of choice to the nearest hospital. That’s 1 km.
  4. I walked from the hospital lobby to the 12th floor through the emergency stairway to buy my dermatologist’s medicine.
  5. After going down to the hospital lobby via elevator, I walked from there to the mall. That’s another 1 km.
  6. I met with my Mother, my cousin May, and my Tita Maggie, and we had a lovely merienda at Paul. I ordered a tartine salmon, and paired it with a refreshing glass of mango juice. It was excellent! I’d order a tartine salmon from Paul again.
  7. I walked around the mall to cool down further. I almost tried a different cafe that also serves affogato.
  8. I was mocked by a group of people because of my face. I know because when I passed by them, I heard them saying, “Pogi ang pananamit, pero ang pangit ng mukha.” (The style is nice, but the face is ugly.) I’m aware that I don’t have the face of a matinee idol. In fact, I have been insecure about my looks for a long time, and their mocking didn’t help at all. I was really hurt. Thanks for that.
  9. To calm myself, reset, and feel better, I dropped by my favorite cafe again, and I had a hot Earl Grey tea. This time, I only stayed for around ten minutes. I already did my Monday ritual anyway, so I’m good with a quick cup of tea.
  10. I went home with my parents and my cousin May.
  11. And now I’m writing this post.

Oops. My ten minutes are up. See you in the next post.
