Song of the Moment LXXI: Philip Glass’s “Metamorphosis: One” (Again)

Have you ever had a dream so happy that you wish the dream would never end? That’s the kind of dream that I had last Sunday, and I woke up feeling happy… and then my smile turned into a frown. It was only a dream.

“But Dewey, it was just a dream. Don’t worry about it.” That’s the thing: It was only a dream.

Since then, I have been struggling to bounce back. I had a hard time fixing my sleeping schedule. I had a hard time finishing my work tasks faster. I had a hard time basically being fine. If I were to add a piece of melancholic background music to my current predicament, it would be “Metamorphosis: One” by Philip Glass. It is one of my favorite sad songs ever.

Philip Glass’s “Metamorphosis One”.

And coincidentally, a year ago today, I also blogged about “Metamorphosis: One” as a Song of the Moment. I only found out after searching the old post. (If you click on the aforementioned link, there’s a spoiler warning if you have not seen “return 0”, the final episode of my all-time favorite series Person of Interest.)

Anyway, even if I’m sad, I will try to keep going. I have to.

XVIII: Full Circle II (The Diary’s 2nd Anniversary)

2 years ago yesterday, I published my first post here on The Diary. And looking back at those 2 years… oh, man, I have been through a lot.

In my first year of blogging on The Diary, I promised myself to publish 13 posts per month and I will blog every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Thankfully, I reached my post goals and schedule mainly because of my Minute Warning series (where I write anything under time pressure under 10 to 30 minutes). And if I were to publish a longer post, I have a writing process that works. You can check my first-year retrospective on this post.

And today, in my second year of blogging at The Diary, I’m looking back and checking if my writing processes still work and if my blogging schedule still serves me well.

Song of the Moment LXVII: Tetsuo Kurata’s “Kamen Rider Black”

It’s Saturday night and I’m still happy from last night because, for the second time, I met one of my childhood heroes, Mr. Tetsuo Kurata, the actor who played Kotaro Minami/Robert Akizuki in the tokusatsu series Kamen Rider Black. This time, I met him at an exclusive dinner in his restaurant Steak House Kurata at Parqal.

The dinner slash meet-and-greet last night was more memorable for me than the first time I met Mr. Kurata because of one key moment: I almost got speechless when Mr. Kurata, his son Kotaro, and Ms. Anne of TokuSpirits approached me while I ate my salad. I had a short message prepared on my phone, but I was so shocked when the man himself was in front of me that I forgot my message. But I got it together seconds later and thanked him for making my childhood awesome. Also, my photos with him this time looked better than my first photo with him. (Too bad I forgot my mask for this though so I can post a photo on my Instagram.) I will always remember this night.

Because of this epic milestone, my Song of the Moment is Kamen Rider Black’s opening song—and Mr. Kurata himself sang it. And I’m listening to the theme song while I’m enjoying my Jack and Coke Zero.

The opening of Kamen Rider Black.

Again, I say to Mr. Tetsuo Kurata, thank you for making my childhood awesome. And thank you, Steak House Kurata and TokuSpirits, for making the exclusive dinner possible. Thank you so much!

(I will try to make a proper post about the event next time because I’m so tipsy as hell right now.)
