Song of the Moment LXXVI: Jim Johnston’s “Rest in Peace”

Oh, man… today, after a long trip to the south to survey and work on a test job, I feel so tired. In fact, I’m so tired that I did not even bother listening to music at all. Or at least until now. I rarely skip music time.

And what is the last song I listened to? It’s the last version of the legendary Undertaker’s theme song, “Rest in Peace”. (Correct me if I’m wrong about the last version.) It is made by another legend in professional wrestling, the musical genius Jim Johnston. (I say this again: Mr. Johnston should be in the WWE Hall of Fame.)

Now that I think about it, I will listen to “Rest in Peace” again tonight, and then I will rest. Not in peace, just rest.

Song of the Moment LXI: Jim Johnston’s “The Undertaker (Original Piano Demo)” (Again)

One of the things I look forward to during the holiday season is Spotify Wrapped. The minute 2024 Wrapped was released, I got excited and checked all the year-end statistics and playlists. It was like opening gifts on Christmas Day.

Upon checking and top songs playlist of 2024 (which has 100 songs overall), I learned that my top 1 song is Living Colour’s “Cult of Personality (Remastered 2023)“. I love the original version, but I have been listening to the remastered version more because it is the current version that CM Punk (one of my favorite pro wrestlers ever) uses as his WWE theme song, and I have been listening a lot. No wonder it’s my top 1 song of this year.

After checking “Cult of Personality” and the rest of the top 10, my eyes went straight to number 13. And what’s on number 13? It’s Jim Johnston’s piano demo of the theme song of my top 1 favorite pro wrestler, The Undertaker. I had a feeling that the piano instrumental would make it to the top 15 (if not the top 10) because I have experienced numerous sad days this 2024 and I have listened to the instrumental to give me comfort while letting me feel the melancholy.

Now that I mentioned it, I will listen to the piano demo to relax my nerves. Today I had a long day at work and I finally got to walk and jog at my favorite jogging path after more than a week, so a peaceful wind-down is in order.

Thank you once again, Mr. Jim Johnston. Again I say, you should have been in the WWE Hall of Fame years ago. I hope you get inducted next year, sir.

Song of the Moment XXIII: Jim Johnston’s “The Undertaker (Original Piano Demo)”

In the previous Song of the Moment post, I shared what was on my on-repeat: “When I Was Your Man” by Bruno Mars. Today, I have been listening to the piano demo of the theme song of my all-time favorite pro wrestler, The Undertaker. Jim Johnston, the longest-serving composer for WWE, made the piano demo.

Whenever I’m in a depressive state and I don’t want to bounce back yet, I listen to said piano demo multiple times and dwell in the darkness. And what a beautiful yet haunting piano piece, it is. It is both comforting and saddening whenever I hear it.

Well done, Mr. Johnston. All the theme songs he created for wrestlers like Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, and The Undertaker are so legendary that Johnston should have been in the WWE Hall of Fame years ago. I hope he gets inducted into said hall of fame next year.

Anyway, if you’re wondering how I am… I’m not fine. I’m not fine since Saturday afternoon.

I need a drink. But that would ruin my rule of “drinking only on weekends”. So, no. I will not drink now. I will try not to. Fingers crossed.
