Tag: Foo Fighters
Foo Fighters are an American alternative/hard rock band formed by Dave Grohl (the fifth and most famous drummer of the iconic grunge band Nirvana). Started as a one-man project with a demo tape that piqued the interest of major labels, a full band was officially formed in February 1995, and their self-titled debut album was released on July 4 of the same year. Several years later, they are regarded as one of the greatest rock bands of all time with hits like “Everlong”, “The Pretender”, and “My Hero” and several Grammy Award wins on their legendary resume.
The Foo Fighters are The Deranged Writer’s favorite band of all time.
Sunrays swaying with glee and pride Miles away from the darkest of clouds It’s times like these I should be in the present Let the good times roll, savor the moment Euphoria like this feels like heaven on earth
In my previous Listen post, I wrote a love letter to my third-favorite Foo Fighters song, “Walk” (the third single and last song from the band’s seventh studio album Wasting Light). I shared how the song gave me light in a truly dark period in 2011. I also shared that during my sing-along to “Walk” at my second (and best) Foos show last October 4, 2025, it started with a few seconds of tears and ended up singing along angrily. That was a cathartic moment for me.
Then, on the night of October 23, 2025, after having a lovely birthday dinner with my family (it was my Mother’s birthday), the Foo Fighters released their newest song, “Asking for a Friend”. Little did I know that, once again, I would feel multiple emotions all at once because of a song from my all-time favorite band.
It’s been a few days since my family and I arrived home from the capital of South Korea. My body is waving the white flag, tired from all the constant walking. (But thank goodness the cold weather made the trek comforting. Also, for a day, I wore a cold-weather outfit inspired by John Reese’s winter attire from Person of Interest [long, black coat, gloves, the works], which made me feel spy-badass while walking around. For a day, I truly embody The Man in the Suit.)
And honestly, my heart and soul are still halfway from Seoul. (Hey, that rhymed.) Why? Well, exactly a month after experiencing a true happy point (the Foo Fighters show at the Singapore Grand Prix), I experienced another true happy point during the Seoul tour, and these two lines from Foo Fighters’ “Everlong” (the 11th song and second single from The Colour and the Shape) perfectly describe it.
If everything could ever feel this real forever If anything could ever be this good again
My hero, Dave Grohl, performs the acoustic version of Foo Fighters’ “Everlong” at the Save Our Stages Fest (2020).
I will tell you the full story once I fully recover and finish the other drafts I’m working on. But for now, I’m glad I’m feeling this real and this good again.
