V: Taking Souls & Digging Holes: 6 Reasons The Undertaker Is The Deranged Writer’s Favorite Pro Wrestler

This is a part of “14 Days of The Deranged Writer”, a birthday blog series on The Diary.

I, The Deranged Writer, was born on December 5, 1990. 13 days before that, on the night of November 22, 1990, WWE unleashed a stoic monster and then-future legend at Survivor Series. That was the night Mark Calaway became The Undertaker.

Since his debut, The Undertaker has become one of the greatest characters and professional wrestlers of all time. He has won the WWE Championship four times, the World Heavyweight Championship three times, the WWE World Tag Team Championship six times, the WWE Hardcore Championship once, and the 2007 Royal Rumble Match (entering at number 30). But his most impressive accomplishment is The Streak, a series of 21 straight victories at WWE’s flagship event, WrestleMania.

The Undertaker has faced and beaten numerous iconic opponents, notably The Rock, Bret “Hitman” Hart, “The Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels, Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Mick Foley, Triple H, John Cena, Randy Orton, Batista, Edge, and CM Punk, and he has earned the respect of all that he has fought in the squared circle, his other peers and the fans. And after retiring on November 22, 2020, 30 years after he made his debut, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2022.

In celebration of today, The Undertaker’s WWE anniversary, I will explain why he is my all-time favorite pro wrestler. Buckle up because this is going to be a long post.

10-Minute Warning LXXXIV

I checked one of my alternative birthday venues today and asked about their reservation fees. Their answer made my heart and my wallet cry. How much? Let’s just say that it’s more than my current monthly salary.

As for Jollibee being another alternative venue, I’m crossing that out. I don’t feel like celebrating there this year. Maybe next year.

It’s 18 days before my birthday, and there’s still no venue. Crap.

Moving on, here’s something I’m certain of now: In celebration of my birthday, I’m going to blog every single day from November 22 to December 5 (my birthday). I’m working on a few posts early so I can achieve that. Watch this space!

And time’s up.

10-Minute Warning LXXXIII

So, what can I share here under 10 minutes?

Today, I feel sad. I have messaged my top choice for my birthday venue twice; 1 for yesterday and 1 for today. But I never got a reply – not even once. If this means I should look elsewhere, so be it. But it would have been all right with me and I would understand if they said they could not host my party.

Anyway, I’m looking at a few alternatives tonight, and I might visit 1 or 2 of those venues on Friday. Or maybe tomorrow. I will see about that.

Damn. I feel like drinking a Jack and Coke tonight. But I don’t want to. I promised myself that I would only drink during weekends. (I might break that rule on my birthday though. My birthday (December 5) this year falls on a Tuesday.)

And time’s up.
