Last Friday, April 17, for the first time in perhaps almost a year, I didn’t touch The Diary for a day.
For several months, I’ve been overflowing with thoughts and ideas, and I have regained my confidence in writing. When I’m on cloud nine, I write about it here. When I’m back in hell, I write about it here. No matter how I felt, I kept writing here.
And then last Friday, life happened.
One of my ears felt like a clogged pipe, and that made my head spin for several moments. That honestly pissed me off. So, I consulted my ENT doctor, and I had my muffled ear cleaned. After the cleaning session, I can hear everything again. I gained Daredevil’s hearing. And I celebrate my newly-upgraded ear with my favorite affogato. Maybe it’s the infernal summer heat, but sipping on that flavorsome union of salted caramel ice cream and a shot of espresso was extra heavenly.
Speaking of heavenly, later that night, my family and I celebrated my Elder Brother’s birthday with a fantastic buffet feast at a restaurant we had never been to. We have never felt so stuffed in years. I still look like I’m carrying a food baby as I type this. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, my Elder Brother, for the lovely birthday dinner.
After coming home and before I poured The Devil’s Cup (my weekend kickoff ritual), I realized I hadn’t even written a draft that day. My queued acrostic poem went live, but that was it. I didn’t write a single rough draft, and honestly… I didn’t feel guilty. In fact, I felt more reinvigorated. From gaining superhuman hearing again, savoring my favorite caffeinated drink in the world, to having another lovely family moment that we will all remember for a lifetime, all while forgetting to write in The Diary, how could I not feel more alive and energized after that?
For the first time in perhaps a year, I, The Deranged Writer, took a day-long break from my main home. Nothing felt apart. In fact, without realizing it at first, another rebirth happened from living a normal day.
See you in the next post.
