The Recently I

Lately, I have been delivering longer posts more than ever, and I think that I’m doing a decent job of that. Not great; decent. But anyway, the reason behind the mini-surge of lengthy posts is that, after a few years of working in my current day job, I found the right balance between doing what I have to do (e.g., my day job, relearning my skills) and doing what I want to do (e.g., enjoying my fandoms, writing here on The Diary). That balance gives me more time to plan and contemplate, and then put them all to writing here in The Diary.

That being said, I miss writing quick posts, and I haven’t made a new blog series in a long time, so it’s time for the debut of a new one: The Recently. Think of it as a page from a slumbook where I write the recent things I have watched, listened to, eaten, or whatever I have done recently.

Now, let’s begin the first edition of The Recently.

If you want to jump into a specific part, this navigation will help:

Recently, I watched…

“That’s Gotta Be Kane!”, a WWE Untold documentary.

The debut of Kane (the terrifying storyline half-brother of my favorite pro wrestler ever, The Undertaker) during the first Hell in a Cell match is one of my favorite Undertaker moments, and my top favorite Kane moment ever. Thanks to the documentary, watching a behind-the-scenes look at the debut is a cherry on top, and it made me appreciate my favorite Kane moment more.

Also, the contrast between the well-spoken mayor of Knox County, Tennessee, Glenn Jacobs (the man behind Kane), and the Big Red Machine is just mind-blowing.

Recently, I listened to…

Foo Fighters’ “Another Round”, my favorite mellow Foos song next to “Everlong”, and my fourth favorite Foo Fighters song of all time.

Writing this post while listening to my mellow playlist truly warms my heart.

A live version of Foo Fighters’ “Another Round” from the Skin and Bones DVD.

Recently, I read…

Deadpool/Batman #1, a Marvel/DC crossover comic.

I think this is the first crossover between the two comic book giants in years, and reading it while having tea at a cafe last night is not just a pocket of joy, it’s a heavy-duty duffel bag of happiness. (And it’s not just because of the Deadpool/Batman story that made me happy. I love everything that I read in this issue.)

Also, this is the first newly published comic book I bought in years.

The original cover of Deadpool/Batman #1, the version I bought!

Recently, I ate…

A few pieces of that heavenly, sweet roasted chicken from Chooks-to-Go.

Unfortunately, I don’t have an aesthetic photo of my meal. Sorry about that. But it tastes great, I swear. The brand’s slogan is “masarap kahit walang sauce” (Tagalog for “delicious even without the sauce”), and they keep their promise every time I munch on even just a single piece of their chicken.

Recently, I drank…

Water.

As every human should. And as I should, even if I go by the codename The Deranged Writer.

The Deranged Writer

Yes, he wears a mask sometimes. And according to most people, he looks like Bruno Mars when he is unmasked. Absolutely deranged, below-average writer.
