Song of the Moment XXXI: James Blunt’s “You’re Beautiful”

I just came back from Tokyo, Japan with my family this morning. How was the whole vacation? Japan blew me away. The cool summer weather made it bearable to walk for miles, the food – especially their sashimi – was amazing, I bought a lot of souvenirs and Foo Fighters albums without breaking the bank, and all of the tourist spots we went to were breathtaking. The only downside of the trip is that 5 days is not enough to enjoy Japan.

Well, I take it back. There is another downside at least on my end. After having dinner at a Saizeriya in Shibuya, I saw a beautiful girl walk inside the restaurant. She has the face of an angel. 23-year-old Deranged Writer might have the courage to approach her, but now I know better and just let her be.

To the girl I saw in Shibuya, I want to let you know that you’re beautiful and I would like to know you more. But then I quote the last 2 lines of James Blunt’s most famous song…

But it’s time to face the truth
I will never be with you

Song of the Moment XXX: Foo Fighters’ “Normal”

As I’m typing this, it’s 11pm and I’m having a short break from photocopying service reports. I know… that sounds boring. But at least it pays the bills. My Mother slash boss told me I could continue photocopying tomorrow, but I wanted to finish the task tonight.

Anyway, I opened my Spotify, checked my liked songs, pressed the shuffle button, and then the play button. What’s the 1st song I hear? A Foo Fighters deep cut, “Normal”. The ballad can be found in one of the Foos’ Foo Files EPs, “00020225”, and its lyrics – especially the chorus – are some of the most profound lines about longing for someone and turning things around.

Will you come out tonight?
Will you back down, will you put up a fight?
Turn me around and make everything right
Make me normal from now on

Foo Fighters’ “Normal”

Speaking of longing, now I’m reminded of someone. (I’m not going to mention who.) I changed my mind about listening on shuffle; now I just want to listen to “Normal” on repeat tonight.

That is all.

Song of the Moment XXIX: Linkin Park’s “One More Light”

Today was a productive day for me. I sent some repair proposals, ordered some materials needed for tomorrow, and went to the bank. And tonight I feel tired and in a mellow mood. What is my Song of the Moment this time? It’s “One More Light”, the last single of Linkin Park with vocalist Chester Bennington.

I don’t think I have mentioned this in The Diary, but Linkin Park is one of my top 5 favorite bands ever and Chester Bennington is one of my top 3 singers ever. Linkin Park’s songs have been an integral part of my teenage years (and beyond that) and they give me catharsis and comfort. “One More Light” is no exception.

If they say
Who cares if one more light goes out?
In the sky of a million stars
It flickers, flickers
Who cares when someone’s time runs out?
If a moment is all we are
Or quicker, quicker
Who cares if one more light goes out?
Well I do

Rest in peace, Chester. We miss you.
