LVIII: Sanctum

As I grew older, so did my desire to have my own home. And I must work so hard so I can afford a spacious, comfortable place that I can call my sanctuary.

In my sanctuary, it will be a place for either total productivity or relaxation. When I need to focus on my day job at home, I have the tools, gadgets, and equipment at my disposal, like Batman has in his Batcave. When I need to relax my tired body and anxious nerves, I have a cozy bed to lie on and a window curtain to close, shutting myself from the world even for a while.

In my sanctuary, I call the shots when everything must be quiet or noisy. Where I can freely listen to energetic music that fuels me to work and exercise. Where I cannot hear a pin drop when I meditate. Where I will not play guitar and leave the television on at the same fucking time. (I mean, why should I do that? Doing things one at a time is less overwhelming than mindlessly doing everything all at once, and I don’t want two sounds clashing at the same time, especially in my dream home.)

In my sanctuary, there will be an area where I showcase my humble collections, from vinyl figures, action figures, and statues to vinyls, books, and DVDs. This is to make up for some of the things that mysteriously disappeared and that I lost during a monstrous flood several years back. And more importantly, this is for the inner child that’s been begging to be healed for years.

In my sanctuary, it will also be a safe haven for my loved ones. When they need a place to stay (especially during harsh weather), I have extra comfortable rooms for them. When there’s a reason to celebrate, a simple meal to be shared, or someone asks for my listening ear, my sanctuary can become the place to be. Also, this is way of showing I’m there for them just like they were there for me.

In my sanctuary, I will take better care of my mind and body. There, in my library, I can read books that feed my mind with knowledge and expand my imagination, away from worries and distractions. There, with my home gym and healthy food in the kitchen, I can build muscles, enhance my endurance, and improve my overall health at my own pace without anything interrupting me.

In my sanctuary, I will also take care of everything around it, from the gates that protect and the plants that freshen the air inside and out to the appliances, furniture, and gadgets that make my daily living easier. All of my fruits of hard work and faith will have places in my home, but they will not last as long as they should if I don’t take care of them.

I hope that someday, I get to turn my dream sanctuary into reality. But for now, let me keep dreaming and working hard for it.

The Deranged Writer

Yes, I wear a mask sometimes. You can call me Dewey. Absolutely deranged, below-average writer.
