LIII: The Diary’s Schedule I

The New Blog Schedule

I have been writing here in The Diary for three years and counting. Other than the occasional break and my 14-day birthday blog series, I’ve been quietly following a Monday-Wednesday-Friday at 8:00pm schedule (Philippine Standard Time). Now, not only do I have a proper schedule, but I have also decided on the themes or topics for those three days.

Moving forward, I will observe this schedule:

Mondays, 8:00pm

Anything goes on this day. Perhaps I will publish an essay, a short story, or a Minute Warning post, depending on my mood.

Wednesdays, 8:00pm

This day is dedicated to Always Watching, a Person of Interest episode review series.

Fridays, 8:00pm

To kick off the weekend, I will publish a poem (usually an acrostic).

Always Watching

Speaking of Wednesdays, let me explain about the new blog series.

One random afternoon in 2011, an online friend briefly shared his thoughts on a new show, Person of Interest (a sci-fi crime drama created by Jonathan Nolan, co-screenwriter of The Dark Knight and brother of filmmaker Christopher Nolan). Though I forgot the exact words he said about the synopsis, I remember it being truly unique: a billionaire hacker hired a burned CIA assassin to prevent violent crimes from happening. What sold me further was what my friend said after: “It’s like an alternate Batman story.” And because I appreciate anything that is related to the Dark Knight (Mr. Nolan being the show creator and my friend’s framing of the show), I had to scour for the pilot.

There was another reason I watched the first episode of Person of Interest. During that year, watching captivating series became a pocket of joy for me. How I Met Your Mother knocked on the door of my inner hopeless romantic, and Chuck perfectly balanced its love story and spy-action comedy themes. Despite finding two permanent favorites, I wanted to watch more. So, when I found out about Person of Interest from a good friend, it was my way of satisfying my craving for more unique shows.

103 spectacular episodes and five straight seasons later, Person of Interest became my favorite show of all time. Almost ten years after it ended on June 22, 2016, it still is.

Now that the incredibly underrated series will celebrate its 15th anniversary this September 22, and, thankfully, it will be available on Netflix Philippines tomorrow (May 12), it’s time for me to push through a passion project I’ve been holding off on for a long time: a series of Person of Interest episode reviews. I’d like to call this blog series Always Watching.

The first episode review, “Pilot”, will go live this Wednesday, May 13.

See you in the next post!
