Song of the Moment IX: Living Colour’s “Cult of Personality”

I’m so excited for the upcoming WWE Royal Rumble (2024) because a few of my favorites – Cody Rhodes, CM Punk, Shinsuke Nakamura, Drew McIntyre, and Gunther – will join the Men’s Royal Rumble match. And after seeing the heated promo between Punk and Rhodes on Raw recently, the excitement turned up to 11. I’m so glad WWE uploaded the full segment on their YouTube channel, and I hope that either man will win.

The intense promo between Cody Rhodes and CM Punk before the WWE Royal Rumble 2024.

In light of the upcoming match, I’m repeatedly listening to Living Colour’s “Cult of Personality” (CM Punk’s theme song). I will listen to Downstait’s “Kingdom” (Cody Rhodes’ theme song) tomorrow, but it’s Punk’s night for now.

I’m looking forward to this weekend!

Song of the Moment II: Ghost’s “Zenith”

Ghost, a heavy metal/hard rock band hailing from Sweden and one of my favorite bands ever, just released a compilation album called 13 Commandments yesterday. And to my delight, one of the tracks on the album is their best song yet but has never been officially released in digital form until now. And now that it’s on YouTube and on my Spotify, this awe-inspiring track is on repeat.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is “Zenith”.

Note: This post’s date is December 2, 2023. But to tell you the truth, I published it around 12am of December 3. I have problems with my mobile data while I was out, so I only got to publish it when I arrived home.

Listen I: Foo Fighters’ “The Pretender”

I started being a casual Foo Fighters fan in 2002 when I saw their music video for “All My Life”. It is one of the 1st rock anthems I literally banged my head to. Since then, they are on my top 20 bands, and I enjoy their classics like “Everlong” and “Best of You”. But, as I said, I was a casual fan; I know the hits, but I’m unfamiliar with their full albums and deep cuts, and I wasn’t paying attention to their release dates.

But that all changed in 2008 when my friend, Chris Otes, introduced me to “The Pretender” while we were on an MRT ride home.

“The Pretender” is the 1st track single from the 6th Foo Fighters studio album, Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace. The song (and album) were released in 2007, and it was nominated for Best Rock Song and Record of the Year in the 2008 Grammy Awards.
