Song of the Moment IX: Living Colour’s “Cult of Personality”

I’m so excited for the upcoming WWE Royal Rumble (2024) because a few of my favorites – Cody Rhodes, CM Punk, Shinsuke Nakamura, Drew McIntyre, and Gunther – will join the Men’s Royal Rumble match. And after seeing the heated promo between Punk and Rhodes on Raw recently, the excitement turned up to 11. I’m so glad WWE uploaded the full segment on their YouTube channel, and I hope that either man will win.

In light of the upcoming match, I’m repeatedly listening to Living Colour’s “Cult of Personality” (CM Punk’s theme song). I will listen to Downstait’s “Kingdom” (Cody Rhodes’ theme song) tomorrow, but it’s Punk’s night for now.

I’m looking forward to this weekend!

Song of the Moment VIII: Matchbox Twenty’s “Unwell”

Today was an OK day for me. I went to the ENT to have my ears checked and cleaned. (I can hear better now; it’s like I have Daredevil’s heightened hearing now.) I went to pay my monthly bills. I had lunch and wrote in my journal at my favorite spot Satchmi. I checked the new Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra at a Samsung store. I had some afternoon drinks with my Mother and cousins. Then we went home and I quickly worked on a document for next week.

But tonight, I started remembering that one thing that broke my heart, and now I’m mentally unwell. Let me quote that Matchbox Twenty classic.

But I’m not crazy, I’m just a little unwell
I know, right now you can’t tell
But stay a while and maybe then you’ll see
A different side of me

I’m not crazy, I’m just a little impaired
I know, right now you don’t care
But soon enough you’re gonna think of me
And how I used to be

Now let me dwell in the darkness once again.

Song of the Moment VII: Foo Fighters’ “Everlong (Acoustic)”

Yesterday, January 14, 2024, was the 55th birthday of my number 1 hero, Dave Grohl of Nirvana and Foo Fighters. I wanted to pay tribute to my idol with a long post, but until now I’m still not done with it. I don’t want to rush it; I want my tribute post to be perfect, and I hope to finish it by this month.

In the meantime, let me share a video of Dave Grohl performing the acoustic version of arguably his magnum opus, “Everlong”. The video was originally aired on March 20, 2021, as part of Oates Song Fest 7908. It has 2 parts: (1) the songwriting process and (2) the performance itself. Skip to 6:56 if you want to check out the performance right away. It’s so breathtaking. I love the acoustic version as much as I love the original one.

Dave Grohl explains the songwriting process of Foo Fighters’ “Everlong” and then performs the acoustic version.

Happiest birthday, Dave Grohl! Thank you for cheering me up and saving me through your music. You will always be my ultimate hero!
