Last August, I mentioned my newfound love for “Tap Dancing in a Minefield,” an amazing rock song by The New Regime (the solo project of the Foo Fighters’ current drummer and youngest member, Ilan Rubin). That song convinced me to check out their first album, Coup, and while I loved the entire LP, two songs truly stand out, and one of them is “All These Changes.”
I also mentioned a different Song of the Moment after “Tap Dancing in a Minefield”: Dream Theater’s “Constant Motion.” But frankly, rediscovering the first Dream Theater song I heard didn’t push “All These Changes” out of my mind—particularly the chorus. Sound-wise, it’s not as fast and wild as “Tap Dancing in a Minefield,” which is refreshing. The verse sound (notably the piano part) is depressing and exhausting, while the rest is loud enough to emphasize its most powerful element: the lyrics. “All These Changes”, a part of an album released in 2008, feels like an LSS-worthy, almost hopeless and angry letter to the modern world, and with what’s happening lately (especially in politics), I believe more people need to hear this song.
All these changes
The chorus of “All These Changes”
I swear it’s all going to hell
Is there something we can do?
All these changes
I swear they’re taking all we know
We can’t let them take us down
Since hearing “All These Changes,” I swear I’ve caught myself singing the chorus at least once a day. That’s how I know I’m truly hooked on this audio gem, even though there are other songs on my daily rotation lately.
And that’s why “All These Changes” by The New Regime is my Song of the Moment.
See you in the next post, and have a nice week ahead (even though almost everything is going to hell).
