I’ve had many right-song-at-the-right-time moments lately, from hearing Saya’s “Natsu Shigure” during a rainy walk to my favorite cafe last June to hearing the opening theme of Person of Interest (my all-time favorite show) when I typed the exact title during a recent online conversation. As a music fan, I truly love those perfectly-timed moments.
Today, I finally recovered from two weeks of muscle pain and coughing. (Violently coughing at night is not a good experience at all. And I can really feel the aging now. Damn.) Thanks to resting, drinking The Angel’s Cup (which is basically hot honey/citron/ginger tea), and listening more to mellow music, now I’m feeling great physically, and I went back just in time for work. The first thing I did upon my return: open my laptop, open my Spotify app, and look for my favorite songs list (which consists of songs from various genres and music acts). I was curious if the universe and Spotify would deliver at least one perfectly-timed song, so I hit shuffle again.
The first song Spotify played? It’s “Across the Nation” by The Union Underground, a previous Song of the Moment and (in my opinion) the best WWE Raw theme song ever. My favorite songs list consists of both loud and mellow music, and 50 songs after hitting shuffle, I noticed a pattern: all of the music Spotify played was loud. No mellow music at all. The universe and Spotify tag-teamed one more time, but they didn’t just deliver a perfectly-timed song. I think they noticed that I listened enough to my mellow music while I was sick, so they queued a set of loud songs that celebrate my recovery and amplify my energy today. Lovely. Thank you, universe and Spotify.
And since this is a Song of the Moment post, picking one from the 50+ songs I listened to today was difficult at first. But then I still have post-concert depression from the recent (and best) Foo Fighters show I went to (the show at Day Two of the Singapore Grand Prix), so I would like to pick this one: “Run”, the second song and first single from their ninth (and in my opinion, weirdest-but-in-a-good-way) studio album, Concrete and Gold. The Foos didn’t play “Run” during their recent show in Singapore, but they did play it on my first Foo Fighters show in 2017 (which also happened in Singapore). “Run” being a part of my first-ever Foos concert is one good reason for “Run” to be my Song of the Moment.
Side note: This is the 100th Song of the Moment! What a monumental milestone! Nice!
A few more reasons? It has the Foos’ signature quiet-loud dynamic, but the song’s loud parts sound more ferocious than ever. It’s definitely one of my favorite Foos songs of all time, and it’s also my alternate alarm clock tune to “The Pretender” (another previous Song of the Moment, and my favorite song of all time).
See you in the next post, and have a great week ahead!
