Air Supply’s “Two Less Lonely People in the World” (one of my favorite mellow songs ever) is my Song of the Moment—and it’s not because I’m listening to it repeatedly. It’s because of a few lines from the chorus that got stamped in my mind all day.
While I was working this morning, I was in the mood for some mellow songs. So, I opened my favorite songs playlist on Spotify, played “Unwell” by Matchbox Twenty (a previous Song of the Moment), and hit shuffle mode. I was singing “I’m not crazy, I’m just a little unwell” while I edited my billings.
Wait. “I’m not crazy”? I’m deranged.
Anyway, moving on… after “Unwell”, the next song on the shuffled list was an Air Supply classic, “Two Less Lonely People in the World”. Nice one, Spotify. You are in a mellow mood, too. Then I heard two lines from the chorus clearer than ever, and it has stuck with me since this morning.
In my life where everything was wrong
Something finally went right
I have been struggling mentally for a long time, and drinking my favorite Jack & Coke Zero more than I should has not helped the situation. But since I changed my most important prayer last May (which is “please hold me longer, Lord”), I made changes to my life gradually as the universe gives in return.
Let me list some of those changes and gifts down:
- I can handle the pressure of work, but if I can’t finish a task, I have become comfortable saying no.
- I have been enjoying my hobbies (listening to music, for example) and being with my loved ones more than ever, especially during the times when anxiety and depression whisper.
- I discovered and met a new favorite singer-songwriter in the same week, and it changed my life for the better. (I will get to that story soon.)
- I have been enjoying eating as well, but not to the point of being glutted.
- My favorite Jack & Coke Zero became a celebratory drink every Friday or Saturday night, not something I would mindlessly gulp every weekend.
- I started making more time to write both in my actual journal system and here on The Diary, and I made the process more efficient and fun.
So, yes, in my life where everything was wrong, I made one simple change after another, and then some things finally went right. That is why Air Supply’s “Two Less Lonely People in the World” is my Song of the Moment.
Extra notes: A small, hopeless romantic part of me can feel that the Air Supply track will be a Song of the Moment again someday because of the entire music and lyrics. Just not today.
