Today, it was an OK day for me. I have done most of my daily rituals, and I didn’t do that much work. In the afternoon, I had to endure the hot summer and ran an errand at the city hall. After that, I enjoyed a bit of Coke Zero while watching the Netflix special Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always. (The Power Rangers fan in me is happy seeing the old cast and the updated morphing sequences.)
And then came dinner time. I was enjoying my mushroom soup, fried chicken, and brown rice when suddenly I saw a YouTube notification from my favorite band of all time, Foo Fighters. They uploaded a lyric video of their new song “Rescued”. And, of course, I shouted for joy like the elated Foos fanboy that I am.
“Rescued” is the 1st single from the upcoming 11th Foo Fighters studio album But Here We Are (out June 2, 2023).
Every time I hear a new Foo Fighters song, I click repeat one and absorb the entire song, and “Rescued” is no exception. The more I listen to it, the more I shed tears because the lyrics resonates with me and the mental battle I’m going through and it heals my soul at the same time. The last time I cried over a newly released Foos song, it was when I heard “Walk” (another uplifting Foos song) from the 7th Foos album Wasting Light.
As for the music, “Rescued” is sonically intense with an amazing buildup like the older Foo Fighters songs “In Your Honor”, “Cheer Up, Boys (Your Make Up Is Running)”, and a bit of “The Sign”. I really love the progression of the instrumentals especially in the 2nd and the last chorus – the drum fill and guitar shredding while Dave Grohl screams what my heart wants to scream:
We’re all just waiting to be rescued tonight!
To be rescued tonight!
Rescue me tonight!
Rescue me tonight!
As I type this post, I’m listening to “Rescued” for the 35th time, and it’s slowly turning into one of my top 30 favorite Foo Fighters songs of all time. I will see about that in the long run though. And I think I should make a top Foos song list here on The Dispatch, but for now, let me enjoy this energizing song. I’m so glad I found a new encouraging and relatable Foos song that can be compared to “Walk” and “Best of You”.
