Song of the Moment VII: Foo Fighters’ “Everlong (Acoustic)”

Yesterday, January 14, 2024, was the 55th birthday of my number 1 hero, Dave Grohl of Nirvana and Foo Fighters. I wanted to pay tribute to my idol with a long post, but until now I’m still not done with it. I don’t want to rush it; I want my tribute post to be perfect, and I hope to finish it by this month.

In the meantime, let me share a video of Dave Grohl performing the acoustic version of arguably his magnum opus, “Everlong”. The video was originally aired on March 20, 2021, as part of Oates Song Fest 7908. It has 2 parts: (1) the songwriting process and (2) the performance itself. Skip to 6:56 if you want to check out the performance right away. It’s so breathtaking. I love the acoustic version as much as I love the original one.

Dave Grohl explains the songwriting process of Foo Fighters’ “Everlong” and then performs the acoustic version.

Happiest birthday, Dave Grohl! Thank you for cheering me up and saving me through your music. You will always be my ultimate hero!

But, as I said, I was a casual fan; I know the hits, but I’m unfamiliar with their full albums and deep cuts, and I wasn’t paying attention to their release dates.

But that all changed in 2008 when my friend, Chris Otes, introduced me to “The Pretender” while we were on an MRT ride home.

“The Pretender” is the first song and single from the sixth Foo Fighters studio album, Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace. It was released in 2007, and it was nominated for Best Rock Song and Record of the Year at the 2008 Grammy Awards.
