Song of the Moment XXVIII: Foo Fighters’ “Everlong”

27 years ago today, my favorite band of all time, Foo Fighters, released arguably their best album to date, The Colour and the Shape. And one of the songs on the album, “Everlong”, is not only one of the best Foos songs but also, in my opinion, one of the best love songs ever.

I already blogged about the acoustic version of “Everlong” in a previous Song of the Moment post, so tonight I will share a bit about the original version. Why is it a great Foos song and a great love song? I will give a few reasons: (1) the sweet, exciting rock instrumentals and (2) the chorus. Man. The chorus.

If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again
The only thing I’ll ever ask of you
You gotta promise not to stop when I say when
She sang

I will write more about this song soon as part of the Listen blogging series, but for now, I will keep listening to “Everlong” and the other amazing songs from The Colour and the Shape tonight. And I suggest you check out the Foos’ magnum opus as well.

That is all.

Song of the Moment XXVII: Johnny Cash’s “Hurt” (A Nine Inch Nails Cover)

Yesterday I didn’t feel like writing, hence the lack of a blog post. I just wanted to work during the day and then have my walking/jogging session at night, and I did those things. I feel better after walking and jogging around my usual jogging path.

Today, I woke up earlier than usual to join my Mother in her meeting with a major client. After that, we had cheeseburgers for lunch at 8Cuts and went home. On our way home, I was groggy because I lacked sleep, so I took an afternoon nap.

And then I entered into a bad dream. Again. I can’t tell the details of my nightmare (what happened and who was in it), but all I can say right now is this: I have been fearful of the same nightmare for the past 5 years and counting, and it feels so real whenever I enter into it. I hate it so much. And to make it worse, I woke up with my nose bleeding like a faucet.

And then I remember Johnny Cash’s version of Nine Inch Nails’ “Hurt”. How appropriate.

What have I become
My sweetest friend?
Everyone I know
Goes away in the end

Song of the Moment XXVI: Linkin Park’s “QWERTY”

Last April 12, 2024, Linkin Park released their greatest hits album Papercuts. Aside from their hits like “One Step Closer”, “Faint”, and “What I’ve Done”, the album also includes “QWERTY”, a song from the fan-club exclusive album LP Underground 6.0 and one of my favorite deep cuts (if I may call it that) from the band. I’m so glad they finally released it on digital streaming.

You hide behind lies
You don’t know why
You crossed the line
Wrapped up inside your lies
You hide behind lies
You’re lost inside that cold disguise
Behind your lies

Now, let me headbang all night while listening to this heavy masterpiece.
