XLVII: Song of the Moment CXIII / The Deranged Writer’s Struggle with Steinermania IV

I have a few rituals as a huge fan of my favorite band, the legendary alternative/hard rock band, Foo Fighters. Here’s one of them: whenever they release a new song, I listen to it at least 50 times (scattered throughout the day if I’m busy), and then stop for a while.

Last February 19, I listened to a fresh Foo Fighters song the second it was released, and after reaching a certain number of listens (or scrobbles, in Last.fm terms), I had to stop listening and mark it down because it triggered my Steinermania once again.

Song of the Moment CXIII: Foo Fighters’ Your Favorite Toy

The lyric video for Foo Fighters’ “Your Favorite Toy”.

The more the Foos started dropping teasers on their social media accounts and on their landing page (featuring a Foos fan’s wall filled with photos and more teasers when you click on those photos), the more I bounced off the walls because the teasers sound so good. And then, one tiny yet important detail was added to the landing page: the time, 6:00, and the date 2 / 19 (February 19). I had to convert the time from 6:00 PT (I assumed it was PT) to Manila time using Google, and I got the answer: 10:00pm. That’s it. I was not sleeping at that time.

A few seconds after I saw the link to the new Foo Fighters song, I learned the title: “Your Favorite Toy”.

Let me quote my hero, Dave Grohl, on his comments about the new song:

“Your Favorite Toy” really was the song that unlocked the tone and energetic direction of the new album. We stumbled upon it after experimenting with different sounds and dynamics for over a year, and the day it took shape I knew that we had to follow its lead. It was the fuse to the powder keg of songs we wound up recording for this record. It feels new.

When I finally heard the new song “Your Favorite Toy”, it did sound like a new, different kind of Foo Fighters song (for me, at least). The groovy guitars and the mocking, sharp lyrics are so infectious that I completed my 50-listen without breaks that night, and my arms and legs were so tired from all dancing and pretending to play all of the instruments in the comfort of my room.

Get back, hear that, boy?
Someone threw away your favorite toy for good
For good
Hey!

The chorus of Foo Fighters’ “Your Favorite Toy”

If the new album (also titled Your Favorite Toy) sounds as insanely energetic as the title track, I think I will be totally floored by it. I also love that they made “Asking for a Friend” (which is turning into one of my top ten favorite Foos songs) the closing track, continuing the legendary band’s streak of perfect album closers.

Your Favorite Toy, the new Foo Fighters, will be out on April 24, 2026! Now I’ll wait for that date like it’s Christmas Day.

You can listen to the new single here, while you can pre-save/pre-order the album here.

The Deranged Writer’s Struggle with Steinermania IV

I got a 141 2/3 chance of winning…

An important part of Scott Steiner’s Math promo

If you have been reading The Diary since last year, you may have read my struggle with Steinermania. And honestly, I’ve reached a point of my Steinermania where even the number 141 2/3 or 141 (the most important number from Steiner Math) can make me laugh like a madman, and strangely enough, I have been seeing the number 141 everywhere way too often. I had to keep a straight face whenever I encountered those digits in public.

When I thought I listened to “Your Favorite Toy” a hundred times, I had to take a break and listen to my other favorite songs. Recently, I’ve been loving the new Bruno Mars album, The Romantic. (You should give it a listen, too.) After my first round of listens, I had to check my Last.fm statistics, and then I saw the number of listens to “Your Favorite Toy”. I saw those digits again: 141.

I will never escape Steinermania. Never, ever.

But at the same time, after living with dark clouds above my head for so many years, when I started laughing more often (and easily), even with the slightest mention of the number 141? That’s pure bliss. Absurdly funny things like Steiner Math add color in between the light and the darkness that I live in now.

To a true gentleman, the greatest mathematician in the multiverse, “Big Poppa Pump” Scott Steiner, once again I say: thank you. Your Steiner Math has been a great gift to mankind, especially to me, and I truly need the laugh.

Yes, I wear a mask sometimes. You can call me Dewey. Absolutely deranged, below-average writer.
