Finally, the weekend is here, and I’m about to have a celebratory Jack & Coke Zero tonight. (This is also in celebration of the Foo Fighters’ 30th anniversary.)
But first, let me have a short rant about something that happened at work several weeks ago. (If you don’t want to read my short work rant, just click here.)
Ranting About Work
Several weeks ago, I applied for a permit, and it’s for one simple task: filter cleaning. It was approved, but there’s an extra note from an officer: they need a risk assessment.
Maybe something troubling happened recently that led the admins to make risk assessments a requirement. But a risk assessment for filter cleaning? I quote a great man:
Are you serious, bro?!
Matt Cardona (formerly Zack Ryder of WWE)
What are they worried about? It’s not like we will douse the filter with… all right. I might go overboard, but good grief. Really, admin?
Anyway, enough ranting. Let me get my drink.
(Gets his ice-cold Jack & Coke Zero)
Now, I’m…
Raving About a Foo Fighters Music Marathon
Today, July 4, 2025, is the 30th anniversary of the Foo Fighters’ self-titled debut album, and I don’t want to miss celebrating that. So, after waking up and listening to my battle anthem, “The Pretender”, I drank a cold glass of water and then I made all of the Foos’ studio albums (plus one compilation album and one EP) my soundtrack for today.
I listened to the epic first album while I finished my morning rituals. I listened to the next three (and legendary) Foo Fighters albums while I finished some urgent tasks: The Colour and the Shape, There is Nothing Left to Lose, and One by One. I listened to both the electric and acoustic sides of In Your Honor during my lunch break and at the start of my afternoon tasks. In the middle of those afternoon tasks, I reminisced (and cringed) about my early college days with Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace. (I definitely headbanged to “The Pretender”.) Then I took an afternoon break from the studio albums with the compilation album Greatest Hits.
I continued my afternoon tasks while remembering (and cringing again) about my senior college years with one of my top 3 favorite Foos albums, Wasting Light. (“Walk” made me cry again. Good thing I was alone at home.) I finished today’s work (and this work week) while listening to the most recent Foo Fighters albums: Sonic Highways, Saint Cecilia EP, Concrete and Gold, and Medicine at Midnight. And to kick off the weekend, tonight I listened to the band’s latest (and most emotional album to date, in my opinion) But Here We Are and their newest song “Today’s Song”. (The latter was released last July 2.)
And as I type this, I’m sipping my favorite Jack & Coke Zero as I listen to Foo Fighters songs at random. Lovely.
It has been a long time since I had a Foo Fighters music marathon, and today’s marathon proved why the legendary American rock band is my favorite of all time: each Foos song is either a soundtrack of a specific point in my life, a theme song of a significant person, or a emotional trigger (excitement, romance, motivation, rage, etc.)… or (depending on the song) it’s all of the above. I love it!
And now all of the studio albums (plus the Greatest Hits compilation, Saint Cecilia EP, and “Today’s Song”) have another memory stamped on them: Me, The Deranged Writer, celebrating 30 years of Foo Fighters as I work and kick off the weekend with my favorite drink.
Happiest 30th anniversary to my favorite band, Foo Fighters! Here’s to 30 more!
